Street Art

Types of Art

This wall art is found in the Geisha Sushi Bistro. It is typical of the Japanese art that depicts soft pastels and nature scenes.

I would consider this a type of art, street art. Just simple to do but still making a statement if not bringing a smile to the passing faces.

The above stained glass is in The St. Louis Cathedral. As always, stained glass is simply beautiful. The picture below is the ceiling of the same cathedral. As far as I know it was local artist that completed this awe inspiring work. Worthy of the masters. Very intricate and finely detailed.

This stained glass window is in the Old Ursaline Convent. Stained glass is a type of art that has transcended time and leaves everyone is awe.

DeGualle

In 2014, Brandan Odums and his graffiti crew transformed DeGaulle Manor into a graffiti art exhibit after painting murals of famous civil rights leaders and entertainers such as Tupac ShakurMalcolm XMartin Luther King Jr. and Muhammad Ali.[15] The murals located on 3010 Sandra Drive attracted 3,000 people when Odums opened it as ExhibitBe on November 15[16] It was described as "the largest single-site street art exhibit in the American South." ExhibitBe closed in January 2015 with an ending concert including musicians David BannerErykah BaduDead PrezDee-1 and a performance by the Edna Karr High School Marching Band. (wikipedia)

(below is some graffiti on the outskirts of town. The detail and imagination of this artist is incomparable.)

Street Artist, Brandan Odums, has a vast array of art around the city. He is know for the DeGualle Manor among many others. Brandan “Bmike” Odums is a highly sought after visual artist and filmmaker who uses these chosen mediums to tell stories and make statements that transform the minds of viewers as well as the spaces in which his work appears. In 2013, Brandan completed a series of graffiti murals depicting iconic African American civil rights leaders at the Hurricane Katrina damaged Florida Avenue public housing complex in New Orleans’ 9th Ward. Given the name #ProjectBe, the space unexpectedly received national attention bringing spectators from all over to see the art before the deserted complex’s set demolition date.

Jackson Square Art

Jackson Square art is one of the most well known art centrals of New Orleans. With dozens of various artists it is one of the most diverse places in the city to find street art. From the 1920s through the 1980s the square was famous as a gathering place of painters of widely varying talents, including proficient professionals, talented young art students, amateurs, and caricaturists.
The 1960s and 1970s saw the beginnings of the Square as a place of business for New Age and pagan devotees telling fortunes and reading palms and tarot cards. They sit on St. Ann or St. Peter street, alongside of the park.
Chartres Street, in front of Saint Louis Cathedral, the Presbytère, and the Cabildo, is shared by visitors and artists, musicians, and varied street performers, such as jugglers and magicians. The performers generally work for tips. (wikipedia)
